United Way’s 4th Annual Behavioral Health Conference: The Power of Prevention

The United Way of Broward County Commission on Behavioral Health & Drug Prevention in collaboration with Broward Behavioral Health Coalition presented this 4th annual conference on May 15-16, 2018. Bringing together a passionate and diverse community over 850 attendees were able to discuss, network and learn, not only from dynamic presenters, but from our peers as well.

Our executive director Grace L. Carricarte, LMHC provided two presentations exemplifying just that. Day 1 included her presentation entitled Understanding and Preventing Youth Suicide. A highlight of the day was sharing it with keynote speaker VADM Jerome M. Adams, M.S., Surgeon General of the United States.

Day 2 included her presentation on The Impact Across Professions: Adult and Veteran Suicide. Our ongoing partnership with United Way has allowed many opportunities including being Broward County Public Schools’ official trainers for CIT Officers on the topic youth suicide prevention. This collaboration continues to expand as we extend our gratitude to all those who serve.

It is with great respect and thanks that we acknowledge all those at United Way of Broward County for organizing such a successful event. More information may be found here. Our communities remain indebted to you and it is an honor to #LIVE UNITED!

As if this annual conference had not been exciting enough Dr. Adams on his departing flight was able to provide medical assistance mid-flight. More on that story here:

Yes, well done, Dr. Adams.
