United Way’s 5th Annual Behavioral Health Conference: The Power of Prevention

The United Way of Broward County Commission on Behavioral Health & Drug Prevention in collaboration with Broward Behavioral Health Coalition presented this 5th annual conference on May 14-15, 2019. Bringing together a passionate and diverse community of over 500 attendees were able to discuss, network and learn, not only from dynamic presenters, but from our peers as well. This conference was sold-out due to its amazing compilation of speakers.

Our executive director Grace L. Carricarte, LMHC provided a presentation entitled “Responding to Youth Suicide”. As we know first responders are often called upon to handle very delicate situations which may involve suicide attempt survivors, survivors who have lost loved ones to suicide, and deaths by suicide. The objective of this presentation was to obtain a better understanding of youth suicide and explore effective vs. ineffective responses to these challenging situations. Case examples were provided.

Our ongoing partnership with United Way has allowed many opportunities including being Broward County Public Schools’ official trainers for CIT Officers on the topic youth suicide prevention. This collaboration continues to expand as we extend our gratitude to all those who serve.

It is with great respect and thanks that we acknowledge all those at United Way of Broward County for organizing such a successful event. More information may be found here. Our communities remain indebted to you and it is an honor to #LIVE UNITED!
